The GE IS220PPROH1A is a Backup Turbine Protection (PPRO) I/O Pack designed for GE’s industrial control systems, primarily Mark Series architectures. As a critical safety component, it delivers an independent backup overspeed protection system, generator synchronization checks, and a watchdog function for primary controls—safeguarding turbines in emergency scenarios. It operates in either triple modular redundant setups or simplex configurations, connecting to emergency trip boards (TREG, TREL, TRES, TREA) via DC-37 pin cables. Equipped with Ethernet for IONet communication, it streamlines field device integration while boosting reliability and cutting maintenance costs.

Backup Protection Functions: Provides independent overspeed backup, generator sync checks, and
primary control watchdog, ensuring turbine safety during primary
system failures. Hardware-implemented overspeed monitoring and
speed signal tracking enhance responsiveness.
Redundancy & Compatibility: Supports TMR and simplex setups, compatible with Mark VIe trip
boards. Uses BPPB processor boards; functionally aligns with
BPPC-equipped PPROS1B. Note: No auto-reconfiguration when swapping
BPPB/BPPC P-Packs.
Hardware & Connectivity: Features a high-speed processor, dual independent 10/100 Ethernet
ports, hardware watchdog, and internal temp sensor. Field-wiring
limits: 1,000ft of 18 AWG for voltage sensing; connects to
barrier/box-type terminal blocks. Runs on a power supply with
built-in protection.
Diagnostics & Design: Front faceplate displays component ID, paired LEDs for status
monitoring, and an IR port for low-level diagnostics. Conformal PCB
coating and A-rated revision ensure durability; modular “IS220”
design eases installation on TREAH_A terminal boards.
